14U lacrosse is where young athletes begin emerging into a competitive environment. With respect to the competition at this level, coaches, parents, and officials will emphasize:

 

  • Fun
  • Sportsmanship
  • Using technical skills in game situation
  • Exploring and applying new tactical skills

New or first year lacrosse players are encouraged to play on the recreational team so they can develop the necessary skills and learn the fundamentals of the game.  Also, if your child plays multiple sports and/or participates afterschool activities that require him to miss practices and some games, then you register for the recreational team

Returning players and/or new players with prior lacrosse experience are required to commit to a team placement/evaluation. This year's evaluations will take place at Wide World of Indoor Sports (WWIS) in North Kingston, RI. Placements will be based on objective evaluations by coaches and SCYL Board Members.

 

Practices are held twice per week or at the discretion of the coaching staff

Competitive players are expected to attend all practices

Games are held EVERY Saturday including school vacation weeks & Memorial Day weekend against other RIYLL programs. Make-up games may also occur during the week and on Sundays.  

This team will require travel in RI and Southern MA for the RIYLL games/tournaments 

Games starting April 11th with practices starting in March.

All players are required to provide their own stick and Lacrosse equipment to include the following:

  • Lacrosse helmet, gloves, arm pads, shoulder pads, mouth guard, non-metal cleats, and protective cup. Still have questions? Watch this equipment video from Total Lacrosse
  • Required for NEW Players: a uniform from Lacrosse Unlimited's SCYL Webstore (https://teams.lacrosseunlimited.com/south-county-youth-lacrosse-32379). 
  • Along with the base registration cost, each member will have to purchase and/or renew their USA Lacrosse membership.

The boys entering the sport at this point have a vast difference in physical and cognitive development and the game they play will be designed to reinforce fundamental technical skills and practical tactical applications for playing lacrosse. Essentially, they are preparing to be competitors. With respect to the competition at this level, coaches, parents, and officials emphasize:

  • FUN
  • Using technical skills in game situations
  • Exploring and applying new tactical skills
  • Sportsmanship

The emphasis at this age group is on instilling a love and excitement of playing, while developing the fundamental athletic skills that will be valuable in any future athletic endeavors. With respect to the competition at this level, coaches, parents, and officials emphasize:

  • FUN
  • Trying new skills in a team setting
  • Learning and exploring overall play of the game
  • Sportsmanship
  • Practices are held twice a week
  • Games are on Saturdays, including school vacation weeks and Memorial Day weekend against other RIYLL programs.
  • This team will require some travel for the RIYLL games
  • Practices start in February/March indoors, coaches will contact you in advance
  • Games begin the 2nd Saturday in April, with travel to other cities/towns across RI and Southern Massachusetts (Seekonk, MA)

All players are required to:

This is a recreational program, that typically practices during the week and has games on Saturday morning. The focus is on skill building and learning all aspects of the game. With respect to the competition at this level, coaches, parents, and officials emphasize:

 

  • FUN
  • Introduce basic lacrosse concepts
  • Explore competition in lacrosse
  • Basic rules of play
  • Good sportsmanship

Season starts second week in April with practices beginning in March or April (variability due to field conditions from winter snow pack)

Practices are held twice per week.

Games are held EVERY Saturday including school vacation weeks & Memorial Day weekend against other RIYLL programs. Teams practice and every effort is made for teams at this level to play locally.However, RIYLL generates the schedule and some travel may be required.

All players are required to provide:
